What were you doing in October 2004? I was in grade 6 (11 years old)

I was fresh out of high school and, having decided to wait a year before going to college, doing absolutely nothing.

I forgot that Fleshbot was a thing. Don’t think I ever knew what sort of thing it was for that matter…

Yeah, I forgot too

I was in fifth grade and my parents were going through a divorce. And thus began the slow descent into how it all went wrong.

I’m sorry to hear that. You seem like a nice guy though, so not everything went wrong!

Thanks! Do what I can with what I’ve got. Besides, life got a hell of a lot better once I moved out for university.

I was going through the worst, hardest, most tumultuous time of my young adult life. I was certain death was coming for me, or that I could usher his icy touch
Glad I was wrong. I survived (obvs) and now I spend my life shitposting

I was 19 and full of brainwashing and piss headed for my first unit and first deployment a few months later.

Three years out of college, working in high-end home A/v and automation sales and install in Stowe VT, nominally managing a retail space, daily driving a 1992 Alfa Romeo 164-S, doing my damnedest to be a ski-bum (mostly unsuccessfully) and smoking a shit-ton of weed. I had yet to discover the Gawker properties and was mostly living in the still-relevant glory of my <5000 four-digit Slashdot ID

I was halfway through grad school.

I had been working in my field for 6 years, married for 2, owned a house and had an Eclipse GS-T.
Obligatory “get off my lawn”.
![]() 12/26/2017 at 23:16 |

Wow! What did you get your degree in?
![]() 12/26/2017 at 23:25 |

I was driving an RX-8

I’d been working in my field for 9 years, married for 3, and had recently sold my Eagle Talon tsi awd.
Nice lawn, neighbor. Fucking kids, huh?

I was 4 years in to a job that would eventually shitcan me after 12 and two years away from meeting my wife.

Whippersnappers the lot of them.
TSI AWD. Nice. I miss my Eclipse sometimes. I loved the Evo, but the Eclipse looked right to me. Too bad they messed it up with the third gen.

Then 6, almost 7 year old BlueMazda2 spent October 2004 hyped about buying this. I even managed to find a picture of the actual thing.

My first child was almost 1. I turned 30 in November and was looking for a new job and a bigger house. I think I also adopted a cat.

I would’ve been going to college, working part-time as a head lifeguard and spending every penny I had to play with the racecar whenever I could scrape enough of them together. I was probably daily driving ye olde 92 F-350, crew cab, long bed, 4X4, IDI (non-turbo) 7.3l diesel.

2004?
Shit, I’m old
I was 31 then working hard
My car then is the same car that I have now just with an extra 600k km on it

I was a freshman in fall of aught four. I was dating a girl I called tits, because she had huge tits. I have no recollection of her actually name, but I remember that I broke up with her because a good friend of mine told me that in the fourth grade she ate a clump of kitty litter.

Sounds a lot like my wife’s story. Her parents both turned into self destructive monsters after their affairs/divorce. To this day that still blame/hate the other equally.

That would have been a good idea for me. I went on to tech school right after highschool, and proceeded to put in minimal effort, nad get distracted by girls and skateboarding. Kind of wish I had giving myself a few years to grown the hell up before going to school I had to pay for.

GS-Ts are for noobs. AWD for life.

Drug store toy cars! I hate them now, but as a kid I didn’t care. I think I was about 11 when I became a Hotwheels elitist. I remember a friend trying to show off his Matchbox and being distinctly unimpressed

I was finishing up college and working full time as a 9-1-1 operator in Florida. That seems so long ago!

I had been married for 4 years and had just bought a Beechcraft B58 Baron and started an airplane charter service. I drove a white 2001 Wrangler Sahara and my son was still 4 years in the future.
Wife still around, Jeep and airplane long gone.

Technical Education. My Bachelor’s degree was in Architecture. I was in my Junior year of that, when I decided to become a teacher. It made way more sense to finish that degree, and go to grad school for education, than to transfer. I got a TA position, so I had free tuition, a small salary (VERY small!), and I thought the lab sections of an Introto CAD class, so I got some teaching experience. I didn’t even realize it when I made the decision, but teachers with a Master’s Degree get paid more too. It ended up being like a quadruple win to get my teacher training in grad school.

I kinda wonder how I would have turned out had I gone to college straight out of high school.

Meh. Only 5 years older than me, not TOO bad. You’re still like 19.

Trumpet performance. I had planned on getting a job teaching at a university. Fortunately I didn’t, and now I play professionally.

I was probably getting ready to take my two kids (one of which was less than a year old at the time) out for Halloween.
I was also oblivious to the divorce axe that was gonna come down on me less than 4 years later.

Ah, but you see, I still like them. They’re just so neat. Maybe it’s nostalgia speaking, but I’ll buy one from time to time.

That said why I went Evo.
![]() 12/27/2017 at 14:14 |

Nice. An Evo 9 is my “maybe some day car” I just cant bite the bullet on a 20 thousand dollar car that’s 10 years old. My Gvr-4 is good enough for now. But man owning a 27 year old DSM isn’t easy
![]() 12/27/2017 at 14:47 |

03 Evo VIII. Owned since new. Love the thing. Needs some work after being rear ended last summer. It will live again.
